What is this?: Hobbes and Bacon appears to have been a four part web comic series tribute to Calvin and Hobbes by Pants are Overrated. In the way of these things several other webcomic artists picked up on it (I particularly like this one).

Obviously this was pretty much designed to be a Yuletide fandom and there are several stories for it each year. This one particularly stood out for me, it provides some back story, gently makes fun of the social justice Internet, and lovingly fleshes out the characters of both adult Calvin and Susie, as well as Bacon.

What is this?: Anyone who has been unfortunate enough to see Barb Wire knows that just because you are taking Casablanca as your starting point things are not necessarily going to go well. Fortunately this Buffyverse Casablanca AU works incredibly well with Casablanca updated to an LA that is under the control of Wolfram and Heart and their allies. Cordelia gets the role of Rick while Angel is Ilsa. If I have one quibble it is that Whedon's dialogue is so distinctive that it's a little too obvious when words are being transferred directly from the original movie into this AU. That quibble aside, however, this is well worth a read.

An MCU Labyrinth AU which both pays homage to The Labyrinth movie, but also puts its own darker twist on it, drawing from British folklore and Clint Barton's backstory.

What is this?: I remember vividly, as a child, watching the Blakes' 7 episode Orbit and realising with horror that Avon really, truly intended to kill Vila in order to save his own skin. So when I read still_lycoris's fanfic addressing the aftermath I had a huge sense of recognition even though I'm not an Avon/Vila shipper.

I know it's a small fandom but I think there are at least two other Avengers (UK) fans on my flist and if you fancy something Avengersy and Christmassy to read today (or any day really) then I highly recommend this.

What is this?: I have always had a fondness for Arthurian retellings, particularly ones that seek to take the legends more or less in their modern form and transpose them back to the Dark Ages. This story, set just before Camlann, takes Morgan le Fay as the main POV character. It captures really well one of the recurring themes of Arthurian Legend, a utopia almost gained and then lost. We have a glimpse of an Arthurian court run along semi-democratic and meritocratic lines but which is already dissolving into old forms and rivalries from which disaster will inevitably follow.
